I tried drinking some wine last night in the bathtub to de-stress. No go. My tummy has been upset lately. Too much coffee creating too much acid means no wine for me. How cruel is that? I want to drink the wine to help me relax but I can’t because I am too stressed out. Quite a paradox. Well, ok not really. It does suck though.

Onward and upwards right?! I am having my stress dream again. Mine usually is I am in school and I can’t remember what my next class is or I can’t remember my locker combination.

Now I haven’t been in school for mblk%d number of years- what you couldn’t read that? Darn blog must be acting up. Let’s just say I have been out longer than I was in school.

When I was in school I never had a problem remembering what my classes where or my locker combination. So why is this my stress dream? For an added twist as I was heading to the office to find out what my schedule is there was a herd of horses blocking my way. Horses? What do they represent?

I need a dream interpretation stat! And bring me a wine with that will you?

I got my 25% off coupon from Coach in the mail and managed to rationalize spending a stupid amount of money on a purse before the coupon expired. I went to the Coach store in the mall, dragging a reluctant husband and child with me.

The problem is I didn’t see anything I liked. Here I was with a 25% off coupon in hand, justification in my mind and a reluctantly agreeable husband in tow and nothing appealed to me. I really liked the Carly chocolate brown pouch- but the strap is too small to put over your shoulder.

I asked if they had the chocolate color in another bag but they said it is really a fall color so they moved those out. Hmph! So I am either so last season, or ahead of the trends by wanting a chocolate brown purse.

I whined to my hubby that I wish we lived near a Coach outlet because they would probably have what I wanted a lot cheaper. He had his “I am pretending to listen to you but I am thinking of basketball” face on so I gave up.

The next morning my son and I went to get a bagel and coffee at this little shop down the street and what do my wandering eyes see? A Coach display at the coffee shop! Apparently the owner likes to go down to the outlet stores every few weeks and resell what she buys in her shop. Right in the middle of the display was my purse, my little Chocolate, ergo Coach purse. It must have been Divine intervention! God wanted me to buy a new Coach purse, what other explanation is there?

When I got home I asked my hubby if he wanted to see what a $160 bagel looked like and showed him the purse. He shook his head and laughed and said “only you could buy a bagel with a Coach purse on the side.”

Dad fell and broke his hip on friday.  This is his 3rd month in a row that he has been at the hospital.  The ER staff recognizes us now.  I think he gets the 4th month free.  He fell while trying to get up from a recliner without help.  It is his fault for falling because he had been cautioned time and time again not to get up on his own because he might fall.  I don’t blame the caregiver for this accident.

What made me furious beyond belief was when my sister, her hubby and I went to the “caregiver’s” house to get his stuff and move him out after staying for only 2 weeks, no one was there.

There are 5 residents that can’t take care of themselves included one in hospice and she freakin left them alone to run to walgreens.  I was so mad I was shaking.  If there had been a fire they would all have died a horrible death.  We waited until she came back so they wouldn’t be alone. If one of them had a medical problem we couldn’t help except to call 911.

Thursday we got a call from dad upset because she had locked them out of their rooms.  When he was talking to my sister she was shouting over him on the phone.  She apparently had just made the beds and didn’t want them messed up. Too bad if someone was tired and wanted to take a nap.

She serves expired food to the residents.  She talks and berates them like they are children.  My dad was humiliated time and again because he had an accident in bed or for some other reason.

I feel so bad for those people left behind.  We are very active in my dad’s care.  We talk to him daily and visit him often.  The others hardly ever had vistors or calls.  She was so nice when we were trying to decide where to place him.  She had us fooled.

I am calling the health dept on tuesday.  It was just criminal of her to leave those people alone.

Dad had surgery today.  He will have another round of therapy and then we need to find a new place for him. But he will never, ever go back to that woman’s house!

I went out to eat yesterday.  We had 4 adults and 2 kids.  The bill included an automatic 18% gratuity.  What the heck?  Why did American restaurants decide that bigger parties should automatically have tips added to the check.  If they force the amount on you it is no longer a tip but a surcharge!

Tips should be optional.  The better your service the better your tips.  I understand that tips are included in waiters/waitresses pay so they only get paid a few bucks an hour. Unless service is really really bad I always tip.

The funny thing is I normally tip 20% or more.  By putting the tip automatically on the bill they pissed me off and got less.

Another thing that ticks me off is when take out or fast food places have tip jars out.  I refuse to tip for fast food.  I know there are some people who tip the Sonic employees who bring your food to the car but I say forget it!  It is fast food.  I would be perfectly happy to go through a drive through or walk inside.  If their restaurant concept includes kids on roller skates bringing food to your car like a 50’s drive up diner- that’s their choice.

As far as take out places- the whole point of not eating in the restaurant is to not tip and save that money.  If I was going to tip I might as well eat there and get the actual service I am tipping you for!

Speaking of tips and food, I saw this article on MSN.  14 tons of Oreo cookies spilled on the highway when the driver fell asleep and the truck tipped over.  man, sign me up for that cleanup!  Much better than cleaning up oil spills from little birds and such.  Forget the diet- I am doing it for the environment!

Oreo article

For some reason I get a lot of my ideas for articles when I am commuting to or from work.  Probably because God knows I don’t want to concentrate on driving- that would give me an ulcer.  The problem with this is that I have to remember all my wonderful, possibly pulitzer prize winning ideas until I can get somewhere to write them down.

I could use a little tape recorder- I even own one.  But it would be easier if I could just type it into my lap top.  Heck people text message while driving why not?

I know there is talk of some states creating a law making it illegal to text while driving.  Is that really necessary?  Do we really need another stupid driving law?  I heard that in CA they are trying to pass a stupid driving law that will make it illegal to drive with your pets on your lap.  Come on people!  Do you really need a law telling you that this is not a bright idea?

So while there is no stupid driving law saying that I can’t drive while typing on my laptop while steering the car with my toes- I still have enough common sense not to do it.

I think the general “reckless endangerment” laws fully encompesses these things.

Speaking of idiots and driving I read this on MSN…

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24594248/?GT1=43001

He buckled in the case of beer and left his 5 year old child to sit on the floor of the car.  Idiot.  What really gets me is that the case of beer was buckled between 2 adults in the back seat- so that means between 3 adults no one thought there was a problem with this! This happened in Darwin, Australia.  Darwin indeed.

As I was driving to work this morning, late as usual, I discovered that some idiot decided to turn on the ramp meter to the freeway.  For those of you who have not had experienced a metered on ramp let me explain… There is a stop light that makes you stop right before getting on the freeway.  I am sure it is supposed to help traffic or some other BS like that.

What it really does is force you to floor it to try to match the speed of the cars already on the freeway to be able to merge without causing a 15 car pile up behind you.  This is really good for your gas mileage.  Also, if the idiot in front of you never had Mr. Joseph, my drivers ed teacher, and doesn’t realize he needs to match the speed of the traffic on the freeway to get on- you run the risk of rear ending the imbecile.

My conclusion, there is a  conspiracy with big oil and insurance companies.  They are the ones putting up those stupid meters on the on-ramp so we burn through more gas and have more accidents!

I would tell you more but they are watching me through my computer monitor.  Plus my little foil hat needs to be changed because after a few days the foil glare loses it’s protection!

I had hoped to be able to have Dim Sum like I mentioned in my AC article, Best Dim Sum for Mother’s Day, but alas it wasn’t in the cards. Instead we took my father, who is in the process of moving out of his non assisted living facility to his new assisted group home, to go eat at his old place with some of his friends.  This was his first time back since his hypoglycemic coma and near death a few weeks ago.

The food wasn’t the best but it made dad happy so it was worth it.  Next week I plan on having some Dim Sum though!  Here are some pictures that didn’t make the article.  The place is really beautiful.

So the holiday has passed much to quickly and I wanted to see how everyone else spent their Marissa Day. What, not sure what Marissa Day is? Why it is that extra special holiday where Marissa took a day off work while the hubby was at work and the child was at school. Marissa Day went so well we are sure it will become an annual, perhaps semi annual tradition!

So how did I spend Marissa Day? I started this blog. I created a writer’s resume. I wrote one article and did the research for another.

I am a bit dissappointed I didn’t get more fiction writing completed. But I got distracted on singshot.com. Have you tried this site out? It’s Karoke online. It is hokey, it isn’t as much fun as going to the bar and laughing at the drunk losers, it is kind of addicting!! Try it out and let me know.

Try Sing Shot

This will be my first post for my first blog. So much pressure!

This blog will include links to my writing, background information on articles and other random thoughts.

It is a work in progress from one who still has records and one dusty old 8 track, so don’t expect anything fancy.

I hope you enjoy my journey!
